Well our homeschooling year is flying by. We are already in week 11. I thought I would share how our curriculum choices are working out so far.
I will start with math. Initially I was planning on using Right start math along with Singapore math. Well we are still using Singapore math but I decided to add in CLE math after reading reviews of this math program. So far I am currently happy with both of our math choices.
CLE math provides a nice review of the material and slowly and gently adds in new material. My daughter found the speed drills in the back of each book and loves doing these at the end of the lesson. To be honest I was not planning on doing the speed drills, but since she really enjoys doing them we will stick with them.
Along with the Singapore textbook and work book we are also using the challenging word problems. Just doing about three word problems a day.
Singapore math uses the model method and I have found a great website, the Singapore Maths Teacher that shows how to do the word problems using this method. I also found this site that teaches Singapore Math Strategies: Model Drawing for Grades 1-6. I am seriously considering taking this course. Has anyone taken this particular class on line and what was your experience?
Finally I do think that both of the math programs, Singapore Math and CLE math could be used by themselves. However I just want to make sure all of our basis in math are covered. I like Singapore math for the critical thinking and problem solving skills that it teaches and as for CLE math I like the built in review.
